Update: Two People Found Dead In Clay County
CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI-TV) – Investigators are trying to figure out what led to the deaths of two people found in a rural area of Clay County Tuesday.
They found two victims on Dixie Road late Tuesday afternoon. That’s in western Clay County, about a mile from the Webster County line. They’re investigating it as a double homicide.
Sheriff Eddie Scott tells WCBI both victims had gunshot wounds, one man and one woman. They were found in a car.
They have identified one of the victims but WCBI will not release the person’s name until family is notified.
The 911 call came in a little after 4 p.m. It was for a suspicious vehicle.
“When something like this happens, we know it sends shock waves to this community,” Sheriff Eddie Scott said. “If anybody has any information, we’re urging them to please call the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, or the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers.”
The investigation is ongoing.
“It’s frightening because I’ve never heard of anything happening like this so close to home,” Clay County resident Danielle Webb said. “We have a lot of children here and that makes us very nervous and scared for our children.”
Scott says he hasn’t seen a double homicide in his 18-year career in law enforcement.
Other agencies are helping. The sheriff’s departments in Webster and Lee counties, the state crime scene unit, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the West Point Fire Department are assisting.
