COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A hit on a suspicious vehicle by the Columbus Air Force Base’s dog team prompted officials to temporarily close the main gate.
According to a press release provided by the CAFB, the gate was closed to all traffic at about 11:05 a.m. after a routine vehicle inspection led to the discovery of a possible threat.
Security forces promptly cleared and evacuated the area prior to phoning the Tupelo bomb squad for assistance.
Base officials sent out the call almost three hours later at 2:04 p.m., stating the bomb squad had given the all clear.
The main gate was reopened shortly afterward.
CAFB Public Relations Specialist Lt. Josh Benedetti said the bomb squad was unable to identify what triggered the hit.
