United Airlines CEO Issues Apology Following Social Media Outrage
CHICAGO, Ill. – United Airlines’ parent company CEO Oscar Munoz has issued an apology following outrage on social media after video was posted online showing a man being forcibly removed from one of the airline’s flights.
Munoz, in a written statement, said in part, “no one should ever be mistreated this way” and “we take full responsibility and we will work to make it right.”
Munoz initially defended his employees, saying they followed the proper procedures to deal with the situation, but the Chicago aviation department suspended the officer who dragged the passenger, now identified as Dr. David Dao of Kentucky, off the flight after he refused to leave voluntarily.
Munoz issued the above statement, seen in the screengrab of the official @united Twitter account, today.
Disturbing video of the incident surfaced Monday on social media, showing one of the aviation officers slamming Dao’s face into the headrest of the seat and then dragging him down the aisle of the plane. Later, another video surfaced where a bloodied and disoriented Dao could be heard saying, “I want to go home. I want to go home.”
