Tyner Running for Miss. Public Service Commissioner

JACKSON, Miss. — Attorney Mitch Tyner of Ridgeland says he has filed to run as a Republican for the central district seat on the Mississippi Public Service Commission.

Tyner says Friday that he’s running because he has concerns about the coal-fired plant Mississippi Power Co. is building in Kemper County. Tyner says the plant uses “experimental technology” and this is the first time ratepayers have helped pay for a plant before it started operating.

Tyner represented Chris McDaniel when the tea party-supported state senator filed a lawsuit last summer to challenge his loss to U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran in a Republican primary runoff.

Tyner also ran for governor in 2003, losing to Haley Barbour in the Republican primary.

The current central district public service commissioner, Lynn Posey, is not seeking re-election.
