LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. – (WCBI) Two people are in the hospital, and one man is in custody after a shooting in Lowndes County. The call came in just before 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.
A 68-year old female called police, asking for help for herself and a male victim. They were attempting to drive themselves to the hospital, but pulled over onto Yorkville Road to wait for help. That’s where Lowndes Deputies found the two victims, in a maroon Chevrolet, across the street from Friendship Baptist Church. A third witness was also on the scene, but was not injured.
The two victims were transported to Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle, with wounds to the side and torso. The female victim identified her cousin as the shooter.
Less than three miles away, on Stallion Road, a male suspect was taken into custody after deputies pulled over his red Ford truck.
A .12 gauge shotgun, which is believed to be the weapon used, has been confiscated.
Witnesses tell WCBI that a long term property dispute may have fueled today’s shooting.
No word yet on the conditions of the two victims.
