Two brothers donate to St. Jude to celebrate their birthday

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -11-year-old Colton and 9-year-old Cameron Blissard are 23 months apart, and when asked what they had in mind for their birthday this year, their answer was the same.

Though these two brothers have different birthdays, they wanted a skate party to invite their friends and family to enjoy, and instead of receiving gifts, they decided to do something different.  Eleven-year-old big brother Colton explained how coming up with the idea was not hard at all.

“We have so much, and we don’t play with it, so we decided to donate money to St. Jude,” Colton said.

According to the mother, Kerrie Blissard, this is the second year that the Blissard brothers wanted to give back. They are aiming to raise more money this year.

“They ask their friends to just bring donations, no gifts, just monetary donations that they can in turn to St.Jude to those children,” Kerrie said. “We did it last year, and they raised over 780 dollars.”

Their mom explained how giving is just their family’s way of doing things and that she hopes as her two son grows so does their passion to give back to others.

“My husband and I, when they asked if they could make the donations to St.Jude, just got behind them and started putting it all together. Of course, they talked to the nana and papa, and they were so proud,” Kerrie said.

The two brothers explained that they were first inspired to give by watching a commercial at their grandmother’s home.
