Video: Tupelo Wins MML 2015 Award

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- The city of Tupelo now has something else to be proud of. The city has won the Mississippi Municipal League Overall Award for Excellence in 2015.

The award recognizes achievement of cities who meet the challenges of municipal government.

The competition is based on categories involving public safety, planning and economic development, city spirit and public works.

The city’s application focused on how Tupelo came out of last year’s EF3 tornado.

“This award, coupled with the All-American City award is such a tremendous recognition of the great things happening in the city of Tupelo,” said Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton. “The Tupelo spirit is strong, in that we are moving forward as a city in the right direction.”

Tupelo was awarded the honor during an awards program this afternoon, as part of the MML’s annual conference.
