Tupelo theatre portrays a classic Christmas story this holiday
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – One of the most popular Christmas movies comes to life with the Tupelo Community Theatre’s Production of “It’s A Wonderful Life.”
The setting is Christmas Eve, 1945 in Bedford Falls. And although the stage play follows the storyline of the Frank Capra movie, it has a few surprises. Cast members say bringing the popular movie to the stage was fun and also a little challenging.
” A lot of it is the special effects in the play, the lighting is magnificent, sets are great, it will rely on everyone suspending their beliefs a little bit to let some of that angelic and Christmas magic show through too,” said John Carroll who plays Odbody.
“I really love the message, at the end. after all the drama and stuff, it’s the family and friends who come together at Christmas, it’s a loving atmosphere, I really like the message, it’s very sweet,” said Mary Liddy Wyatt who plays young Violet.
“It’s kind of challenging because you kind of want to portray the character how the actor portrayed the character, but you have to make it your own, at the same time, it’s challenging, but once you get it, you get it,” said Maddy Valpuesta who plays young Mary.
“I love how, it tells you that even though, what you think is the right thing to do, will probably change and you have to roll with it and God knows what to do,” said Ellis Anne Hardin who plays ZuZu Bailey.
Every TCT production this season is performed in memory of longtime TCT Director Tom Booth, who passed away earlier this year. Each show was previously directed by Booth.
