Tupelo Residents Get Tips to Replant After Tornado
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tuesday will mark the six-month anniversary of the April 28th tornado, which devastated much of Tupelo and the surrounding area.
On Saturday, the city held a seminar on how residents can replant and reforest their properties.
Sherrie Cochran of Keep Tupelo Beautiful was one of the speakers. She says the city felt it was really important for people to have information about going forward in their yards.
Saturday’s seminar provided people the tools they needed to be successful in their planting.
“The people want to have a good setting, and so that’s where our gardens help us feel close to nature and feel good about life,” Cochran said. “It just seem like that really helps us so when you’re devastated like this, it’s taken that away, so this is a healing exercise and and an effort to go forward, and rebuild the habitat.”
Cochran says the city plans to hold one of these seminars again in January and February.
She says there are many reference materials from the Mississippi State extension service.
