TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – One police department in our area wants the public to know its officers go above and beyond what is required when it comes to training and other standards.
The Tupelo Police Department will be assessed next month by a team from The Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. It’s part of an effort to be recognized by The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
The assessment team will review policies, practices and procedures of the Tupelo Police Department and will forward its findings to the state commission, which will then decide whetehr or not to award accreditation.
“Even from here this is nothing that we stop , policies are just a growing animal, they have to be reviewed each year, so it’s nothing that we’re doing one time and stopping. That’s not it, it is a living beast and we will continue to improve on it each year,” said Tupelo Police Chief Tony Carleton.
On October 24th from 1pm to 3 pm, the state Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission will take comments by phone regarding the Tupelo Police Department. If you would like to comment on the department’s accreditation efforts, call 601 987 3092.
