Tupelo Mayor Nominates Davis for School Board Post
TUPELO, Miss. — Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton announced that he will nominate Mrs. Sherry A. Sheffield Davis to serve on the Board of the Tupelo Public School District.
Mayor Jason Shelton said, “It is an absolute honor and privilege to nominate such a distinguished Tupelo High School graduate to serve on the board of the Tupelo Public School District. I believe her outstanding record as an educator as well as her close ties to the community will make her a valuable asset as a leader in the district.”
Davis currently serves as an instructor of Biology at Itawamba Community College. She is a former teacher in the Tupelo Public School District where she received the National Teacher of the Year award.
“I am very honored to be nominated to serve the Tupelo Public School District which has meant so much to me in my life as a Tupelo High School graduate, a parent of students in the district and an educator,” said Davis. “My goal is to support both the students and the educators whenever I can to provide the resources necessary to make our district successful. I am passionate about the success of the Tupelo Public School District.”
Davis is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with degrees in Business Administration and Biology and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. She has completed advanced coursework at Mississippi State University and has studied at the University of Miami and Southern Mississippi.
She has traveled extensively in her focus on continuing her professional development in science education. Among her many other accomplishments, she has participated in the “Earth Watch Program”, the NASA Airborne Research for Educators program and the Earth Expeditions Dragonfly Workshop in Thailand.
