TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) -One Tupelo man is spending the next week inside the Mall At Barnes Crossing, to raise money for veterans.
Scott Burns kicked off his annual fundraiser this afternoon at the mall food court. Burns will live at the mall through next Saturday, as a way to raise money for Purple Heart Homes.
That organization makes homes handicapped accessible for wounded veterans. In fact, Burns, who is a veteran of the Marines, had his left leg amputated below the knee several years ago, because of a service related injury.
“Anything from a wheelchair ramp to a complete home remodification, to widen doorways and things like that cost money, it would be great if the government paid this when our veterans came home, but they don’t and if they do it’s a long process and Purple Heart Homes tries to speed that up and make it possible for veterans to be comfortable at home,” Burns said.
There are also a lot of door prizes donors can register to win. Burns will wrap up his fundraiser at noon July Fourth.
