Tupelo Man Arrested for False Reporting of a Crime

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)- A Tupelo man allegedly made a false claim against an officer and is now in jail.

Torrence Gill has been charged with False Reporting of a Crime.

The arrest comes after Gill stated that a Tupelo Police Officer targeted him and used abusive language during a traffic stop.

An internal review of evidence revealed that the accusations were false.

Gill was arrested yesterday and his case will be adjudicated through Tupelo Municipal Court.

“We take complaints very seriously,” said Deputy Chief Allan Gilbert, “and when someone makes false allegations and statements towards a police officer, we take that very seriously also. We will deal with these types of cases accordingly.”
