TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Tupelo’s Fair Park was the place to be Saturday, especially if you were a teacher in the Tupelo Public School System.
The city of Tupelo and the Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted a special appreciation picnic for Tupelo teachers and staff. The city also combined the event with the annual “Touch a Truck” event, which was moved from its prior location at Ballard Park.
Sarah Robinson is Director of Communications with the city. She says Mayor Jason Shelton hopes to make this an annual event.
“He’s talked alot about supporting our teachers and that kind of where we need to be to really enhance our school system, which is already so great,” Robinson said. “So this is just a small token a small way to say thank you. So I hope it is just the first of many events to let the teachers and parents and staff here know that the mayor’s office is behind them 110 percent.”
Robinson says they cooked 1500 hot dogs donated by the Tupelo Restaurant Association. She says there were many people and organizations that helped make this event possible.
