Tupelo Brothers Write, Illustrate And Publish Book About Solar System

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – What started as a school project turned into a self published book, written and illustrated by two Tupelo brothers.

Whether it’s foosball, piano practice, or academics, Kabir and Arjun Gupta give it 100%.

So, when 12 year old Kabir had a school project to write a personification poem and another poem related to space, he combined the two.

The result was a book called “Children of the Sun.”

“It’s about a child’s journey through the solar system and how he meets each of the nine planets and learns scientific facts about them, and also observes their unique and distinct qualities, when he returns he realizes these are qualities we should have within us,” Kabir said.

Kabir enlisted the help of 8 year old Arjun for the illustrations.

Both young men, who are home-schooled and also attend online classes, enlisted the help of their art teacher and language arts instructor.

It took about a year from concept, writing, and illustrating, to self publishing the book.

The brothers used many techniques to create the works of art.

“In the book, the first page, it has a very, because we’re talking about the sun becoming angry, and then calm after he had his children, we used the salt to sprinkle and then used watercolor and when we took it off it made very good designs,” Arjun said.

Kabir and Arjun hope their book inspires readers of all ages.

“I want them to learn from those qualities and learn that we should be like those planets, and those planets are inside each one of us,” said Arjun.

The brothers also credit their parents with encouragement every step of the way.

You can get “Children of the Sun” on Amazon and also follow the young authors through their Children of the Sun Facebook page.
