VIDEO: Tupelo American Red Cross Office To Train Volunteers For Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The North Mississippi chapter of the American Red Cross is preparing to help victims of Hurricane Harvey.

On Saturday morning, “Just In Time ” shelter training will take place at the Tupelo office of the American Red Cross.

The five hour course is for anyone who willing to help out in shelters as soon as the hurricane makes landfall .

Officials say no prior experience is necessary for the class.

“What we teach you is how to work in a shelter, how to help those people that are there, different roles we have in a shelter operation, as well as, giving you some basic training on what it’s like to deploy for the Red Cross, how we get you transported there, how we take care of you while you are serving as a volunteer,” said Michael Upton, of the North Mississippi office of the American Red Cross.

The Training runs from 9A.M. to 2 P.M. Saturday. That office is located at 4127 Westside Drive in Tupelo. Upton says most of the initial relief from North Mississippi will focus on shelters in Louisiana.
