Tuition Guarantee Expanded for Lafayette Co. Students
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors will allow students seeking tuition assistance to go to other junior colleges instead of just Northwest Mississippi Community College.
The Three Rivers Tuition Assistant Program started in 2009. It fills the gaps left after federal grants, scholarships and veterans’ benefits are applied to tuition.
For the past four years, students in Lafayette County could only use the program if they were attending Northwest Mississippi Community College in Oxford or Senatobia.
The Oxford Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/1bqKajU) that the change made this past week means students can choose to attend any regional junior college, such as Northeast Mississippi Community College or Itawamba Community College.
Since 2009, 158 Lafayette County students have received tuition assistance through the program.
The program covers the cost of tuition only.
