Troopers Identify Man Hit By 18-Wheeler

WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – State troopers release new information about about a man hit by an 18-wheeler in Webster County on Wednesday.

Joseph Downing, 66, of Great Britain remains in critical condition at a Tupelo hospital

MHP says Downing was walking along Highway 82, near Tomnolen, when the big rig hit him.

The driver, 47 year-old Scott Mims, was eventually stopped. No charges against him are expected at this time.

Investigators say it’s unclear how long the Downing had been in the U.S. or where he was walking. They are working with the British consulate to get more information about Downing.

His family has been contacted by troopers.
