Video: Tribute to Pat Summitt

Women’s basketball has lost a legend, well-known former Tenessee Coach Pat Summitt has died.

A local retired coach crossed paths with Summit multiple times in her career.

Glenn Schmidt was a basketball coach around the Golden Triangle for 39 years. She retired just last June from being the women’s basketball coach at Starkville Academy.

Schmidt played against Summitt at tournaments held here in Columbus and even coached athletes who were later scouted by her. She says that her career in basketball wouldn’t have been the same without Summitt’s influence. She refers to her as the “Pioneer of Women’s Basketball”.
