Video: Timeline Released In Officer Involved Shooting
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – There is new information regarding last weekend’s officer involved shooting in Tupelo that left a man dead.
Tupelo police Sunday released records from Lee County E-911 that detail the timeline of the June 18th incident when Antwun Shumpert was shot.
Deputy Police Chief Alan Gilbert says the department released the information because there were rumors circulating about the response time of the ambulance.
He says the Mississippi Bureua of Investigation is aware the information has been released.
According to the timeline, Shumpert was pulled over at 9:38pm. There was a request for medics at 9:47. An ambulance was dispatched at 9:48 and arrived on scene at 9:50. Shumpert was transported to the hospital thirteen minutes later.
Investigators say Shumpert attacked an officer and K-9 after emerging from a crawl space at a house on Harrison Street. That’s when the officer reportedly shot him.
As the MBI investigation continues, city leaders and the local NAACP have called for patience and prayer.
The department has not released the officer’s name involved in the incident.
