Three Injured in Monroe County Accident

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI-TV) –  An early morning accident sends three people to the hospital.

It happened around 4:50 Thursday morning.  That’s when Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Criss Turnipseed says the driver of a 2016 Freightliner truck collided with the driver of a Kia Soul.

The accident happened at the intersection of Hwy 8 and Hwy 278.

Turnipseed says troopers believe the tractor trailer was traveling east on Hwy 8 when it ran through the 278 intersection and collided with a west bound 2016 tan Kia Soul. The truck then collided with a dirt embankment on the opposite side of the intersection.

The driver of the truck, 59 year old Pamela Shaw and passenger, 58 year old Christopher Shaw of Modesto CA were  transported by ambulance to NMMC Tupelo with moderate injuries.

The driver of the Kia, 59 year old Shirley Barnett of Caledonia was also transported by ambulance to NMMC Tupelo with moderate injuries.

Turnipseed says this accident remains under investigation by MHP.
