THRASHER, Miss. (WCBI) — There’s reason for optimism at Thrasher for 2016.
Head coach LaMart Harvey returns a talented and experienced team that he hopes will get the Rebels over the hump and into the postseason this season.
“The experience of my guys coming back is big,” coach Harvey said. “I have 3 seniors and 2 juniors on the offensive line and I have skill guys coming back. We also got guys coming out of the gym that are going to play football for us this year.”
It was a tough stretch to end the season in 2015 for the Rebels.
After starting the season 2-0, Thrasher ran into a rough patch to end the year and they finished 3-8. Multiple factors came into play but one big key was an issue.
“We talk about it every year in 1A is injuries,” Harvey said. “I had two guys get hurt and I had my running back playing quarterback. Injuries hurt us and got us out to a bad start.”
Thrasher has been on the cusp of making the playoffs in recent years and coach Harvey hopes this is the year they push through.
“Hopefully we can make the playoffs again,” said Harvey. “Coldwater dropping out opens up another spot.
“We teach our kids to compete. We compete in life and we want to compete on the football field.”
