TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Tupelo teenagers learned some life skills today not taught at school or in church.
New Expectations for Women in Tupelo hosted it’s 4th annual teen success skills class Saturday in the council chamber at City Hall. N-E-W-M-S is designed to help women be more successful both personally and professionally. There were classes on goal setting, self defense, as well as health and self awareness. Speakers also encouraged the girls to maximize their potential.
“If we can get to our young girls and teach them, we’ll be teaching them to shake hands. I know I have shaken hands with some fish hands and they will be the interviewing stage when they get out of school and very soon so we need to teach them those important skills,” says Martha Swindle of NEWMS.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson also taught the girls about Facebook predators.
