TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Eight talented young vocalists took the stage for “Singing with the King.” The contest is sponsored by the Tupelo Elvis Fan Club and awards scholarships to winners.

The eight finalists were chosen from a field of entries for the annual competition. For the finals, each contestant picked a song of his or her choice, and they also had to sing a song Elvis covered.

Contestants say they had a blast showcasing their talents.

“He was such a talented singer and you can’t go wrong with Elvis he is just fabulous, he’s so classic, his voice is so rich, pure, and appeals to anyone,” said Junior Division Winner Mary Liddy Wyatt.

“It’s very relevant to us because we all like to sing his songs and he will always be remembered, especially “How Great Thou Art’ one of my favorite songs Elvis recorded,” said Senior Division Winner Thomas Roper.

“It’s just a way to encourage young people to continue their dreams and continue Elvis’ legacy of giving back to the community. He loved children and he loved making a difference in the community and that’s what this does,” said Robby Parman, President of the Tupelo Elvis Fan Club.
