Talbot House holds ‘Black Eyed Pea’ fundraiser
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A non-profit that helps women who are on the road to recovery from substance abuse held a New Year’s themed fundraiser.
Talbot House invited the community to have a traditional lunch of black eyed peas, greens, cornbread, and other goodies.
Donations were taken to help the non-profit continue its mission of assisting women who are making the transition from a drug and alcohol treatment program to independent living.
Staff and residents say the community support is crucial to the non-profit’s mission.
“Making sure these women have what they need, so their main focus is building that foundation of recovery and putting their lives back together, we try and provide all their necessities so they can do that,” said Executive Director Becky Weatherford.
“It gave me love and attention when I was new in sobriety, I was here for five months then I moved out and I still live with some people in recovery, just Talbot House taught me how to live on my own and be sober,” said former resident Blair Vinson.
Talbot House was founded in 2015.
It is in the former “Gardner Simmons Home.”
Ten residents can stay at a time, and there is a waiting list.
