Suspect in custody after Columbus armed robbery

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A person of interest is in custody after a brazen armed robbery near two Columbus daycares.

The hold-up happened on Byrnes Circle, just after 12:45 Wednesday afternoon.

Columbus police said the victim was robbed and that a gun was used in the crime.

Investigators have recovered a gun. Police Chief Fred Shelton would not confirm what type of gun it was.

He also would not say whether the hold-up happened on a daycare property or on the street.

The unidentified suspect is expected to be officially charged Thursday.

No injuries were reported.
