VERONA, MISS. (WCBI) – A group of students at one area elementary school will have a special Halloween this year.
Teachers of physically challenged and special education students at Verona Elementary wanted to do something special for the youngsters.
So they have made decorations out of cardboard boxes, that fit around the students’ wheelchairs. Each student got to choose his or her theme. There is a fire truck, a pirate ship, horses and even an army tank.
Teachers say the project is a lot of hard work, but well worth the effort.
“It takes it from the kids being in a costume for Halloween, they can dress up like a pirate , but they’re still going to be a pirate in a wheelchair and it takes it to that next level letting them be , not only the pirate but a pirate in a pirate ship, not only a fireman but a fireman in the fire truck, taking it to that next level,” said Teacher Catherine Hardy.
The youngsters, including Allie Martin’s nephew, Jorden, will trick or treat around the school on October 30th.
