West Point Student Poets Perform

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – Third graders at South Side Elementary in West Point turned their cafeteria into a poetry coffee house this morning, February 9.

Students in Erica Pate’s class wrapped up their unit on poetry by hosting a “poetry slam.”

The students took the stage and recited original poems and work written by famous poets.

Pate says more than half the class wrote their own poem.
