HAMILTON, MISS. (WCBI) — Hayden Evans is one of the top students in his class at Hamilton High School with a 3.5 G-P-A. His baseball team has also pulled off a couple of big wins so far this season and he also wants to keep a family tradition going following graduation.
Hayden Evans is apart of a baseball team that has tradition at Hamilton High School. Twenty three divisional championships, twelve north-half championships and three overall state championships. So far through seven games they are off to a 3 and 4 start to the season and division games start next week.
“First seven games you just look and see what we got before we start division. We’ve got division as soon as we get back from spring break and just to see what we got,” said Student Athlete Hayden Evans.
“It’s been kind of a roller coaster. First couple of games we didn’t look very good at all, and then we played Amory in the Monroe County Tournament and we was able to pull out a big win against a good team and same thing against Houston, who are the four-A North Half Champs last year. You know when you beat teams like that it should give you a shot of confidence and we felt like it would,” said Head Coach Lewis Earnest.
“Hayden Evans has been apart of this baseball team since his seventh grade year here at Hamilton High School and twenty-second year Head Coach Lewis Earnest and Junior Teammate Todd Robinson have seen that leadership that he’s brought to the team,” said WCBI’s Jonathan Flippo.
“The leadership especially because he’s always been kind of a quiet player and just does everything by example, but he’s not a ra-ra guy. He’s a leader on the field and he’s a better leader off the field to now,” Earnest said.
“He’s been an amazing teammate to me. He works hard. He puts in plenty of extra hours. Picks people up during games and he does his job all the time. I just think that he really loves the game of baseball,” said Teammate Todd Robinson.
Evans also plans to attend Itawamba Community College in the fall to major in Business following his high school graduation. After that he plans to keep the family business going in Hamilton at Evans Plumbing and his Teammate and Head Coach believes he will be successful.
“I think that business is a family tradition. It’s done well for his dad and his uncles, and his granddad. I think it’s a great game plan for him,” Robinson said.
“It’s kind of like we were talking about tradition you know. It’s the same way with that family. It’s a family business. They probably expect him to keep it going and he wants to live up to those expectations to i’m sure. It’s going to provide a good living for him,” Earnest said.
Hamilton returns to action next week on march 22nd to start division play on the road with their Monroe County rivals Smithville.
The baseball team also raised over one hundred thousand dollars to go along with their brand new baseball and softball practice facility and will probably put another thirty thousand into completing the weight room.
