TUPLEO, Miss. (WCBI) — Alex Norwood has been playing basketball and football all four years at Tupelo High. He played wide receiver and some quarterback for the Golden Wave’s 8 – 4 football team last fall. This week, he finished his final sports season playing small forward for the basketball team which closed out a 22 and 6 season this week. Now he has his eyes set on the future.
On National Signing Day Alex Norwood signed with Northwest Community College to play football next season and he says he’s excited about getting another chance.
“It’s really a blessing to get to play beyond high school ball and get that opportunity to further your career and I’m just really ready to take advantage of it and take it to the next level,” student athlete Alex Norwood said.
Alex’s coach and teammates have watched Norwood mature during the last four years.
“A gentle smart person. He’s always been right, done right. Works real hard in the classroom. He’s an awesome person,” said Head Coach Jeff Norwood.
“He’s an All-A-Student, and he’s always been all a’s as far as I’ve known him. He’s a great student athlete,” said teammate Antonio Green.
While Alex likes all of his classes, he says his favorite subject would have to be math.
“I’ve just always been interested in math since I was a kid and enjoying going to math class everyday. It’s just something I like doing,” said Norwood.
Alex says that if football doesn’t work out, he says that he would love to major in computer science.
“I’ve really been interested in a lot of computer stuff as I’ve been going through school and that’s what I really plan on doing,” said Norwood.
Alex’s mom Teresa Norwood played basketball and graduated from Saltillo High School and his father Alex Norwood Sr played basketball and graduated from Tupelo High School.
