Storms Cause Damage in Winston County

WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Winston County was in the line of fire during today’s storms.

Damage was reported from Louisville to Noxapater.

Toppled power lines, downed trees, and structural damage all resulted from the storms.

One person was trapped in their car after a power line fell on it.

James Gordon, a Winston County Resident, said the storm took his family by surprise.

“I was sitting there paying the bills in the house looking out the window,” said Gordon. “The sun was shining it was pretty. All of a sudden the wind started and I looked out the window. And the limbs, little limbs were breaking off, and the were going round and round, and I looked across the road at my shop building here. I saw it coming.”

Multiple buildings on his property suffered damage.

“It came down and hit the shop went back up a little bit,” said Gordon. “It got the trees here in the pasture and it hit the house. Tore the tin off, tore the roof off the house and done quite a bit of damage. Lots of water damage. Mowed down lots of trees. Took the fences up, tore the out shed up. And the whole thing didn’t last five or six seconds.”

Gordon is thankful for his community.

His friends, family, and people from his church came together to help clean up the damage.

“Gods people came and helped me and I just want to thank them, and I just can’t thank them enough,” said Gordon.

Gordon is trying to stay positive and is happy that his family is safe.

“Nobody was hurt and that’s the main thing. All this other stuff can be built back,” said Gordon.

Clean up efforts have begun, with residents coming together to help each other.
