COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The owners of a Columbus store are proving that family does not have to be biologically connected.
For more than forty-one years, Donnell Lloyd has worked for the Perkersons at Military Hardware. He started hanging around the store when he was just five years old.
Lloyd was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. Now the Perkersons are reaching out to their customers and the community to help them raise money to assist with Lloyd’s mounting medical bills.
Lloyd says, “I have had surgery…colon cancer surgery and I’ll have to go through chemo, which will start soon. I’m just trying to keep a good spirit about it all.” Brad Perkerson adds, “I”ve got a lot of customers in the community who’ve been putting in the pot and they know Donnell and they want to help out and this is the only way they can do it.”
In addition to donating to the money in a jar in the store, customers can help the Perkersons raise money for Donnell by supporting a fish fry. It’s Friday from11:00 am to 1:30 pm directly across the street from Military Hardware in the lot of a vacant gas station.
There will be fish dinners for sell and special entertainment by gospel group Sanders and the Going Four.
