Steele Injured, Borchert Suspended
Mississippi State junior guard Jalen Steele will be out approximately six weeks with a fractured right wrist he suffered against Florida Atlantic on Tuesday.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native sustained the injury after driving inside the lane for a layup with 10:40 remaining in the first half of the Bulldogs’ 78-58 win
Surgery will not be required.
“I feel for Jalen because he put in a great deal of work in the offseason so that he could take advantage of the opportunity that was present for him this season,” MSU coach Rick Ray said. “I know with Jalen’s work ethic that he will attack his rehab and be ready to come back and help this team when that time comes.”
In two games this season, Steele totaled 18 points and 7 rebounds in 57 minutes of action. At Troy, he had a team-high 16 points.
Ray also announced Wednesday that junior forward Colin Borchert has been suspended for violation of team rules and will not accompany the team to Hawaii on Thursday for the Maui Invitational.
The Phoenix, Ariz., native, an All-American transfer from East Mississippi Community College, started the first two games for the Bulldogs this season and is averaging 5.0 points and 3.5 rebounds while logging 27.5 minutes an outing.
“It is unfortunate for the rest of our team with all that we have been through thus far that we had to suspend Colin,” Ray said.
