Video: Starkville School Achieves U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Six Cent Certification
[bitsontherun yDEwDKQV]STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- Starkville School District can add their name to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s six Cent Certification. Only six school districts in Mississippi have achieved the Certification. It is a nutrition program which give schools back six cents for every meal it sells. It is in an effort to enforce healthier eating in schools. The Certification required the school to demonstrate compliance with requirements of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The act also required a new lunch meal pattern and breakfast plan that will be subject to review every three years to maintain the six cents Certification. The six cent reimbursement helps to defer the expense of new regulations.
