Starkville Man Charged With Assault, Attempted Arson

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — On December 29th at approximately 12:47 a.m., the Starkville Police Department arrested 21-year-old Derrick Devante Young charging him with two counts of aggravated assault and attempted first degree arson.

Officers were dispatched to 200 Hartness St. in Starkville at 11:09 p.m. Sunday nightafter Emergency 911 received complaints of shots being fired in the area.

Two victims were transported to Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville. One victim was treated and released and the other victim was admitted to OCH Regional Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries.

Young was transported to Oktibbeha County Jail where he awaits his initial appearance in Municipal Court at 6 p.m. today and his bond will be determined at that time.

The case is currently in its initial stages of investigation and no further information is being released at this time.
