STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – WCBI has new information surrounding the investigation involving Starkville’s police chief.
Chief David Lindley was put on paid administrative leave last week, but city leaders are still keeping tight lipped as to why.
WCBI asked one alderman if the chief’s leave is related to his wife’s recent auto accident. He said, ‘Perhaps.’
Chief Lindley told WCBI his wife, Mississippi State University Police Chief Georgia Lindley, recently brushed someone’s bumper in a church parking lot, but only left the scene because she didn’t realize she had bumped the car.
Lindley said when she realized it, she immediately filed a report and exchanged insurance information with the owner of the other vehicle.
WCBI tried to get a copy of the accident report, but the police department said the report has to be finalized before it can be released to the public.
WCBI has since filed a public records request.
Some aldermen tell WCBI they’re surprised by the investigation, saying Lindley has been a dedicated civil servant.
City leaders will hold a special called meeting related to personnel issues Tuesday afternoon. Some aldermen said they believe it’s related to the police chief.
