STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Investigators have spent most of Friday morning investigating what is believed to be a homicide. When Police responded they found 24 year old Ellis Bishop lying dead in a puddle of his own blood of a gunshot wound to the head. The case is coming together as law enforcement search for clues.
According to Bishop’s Aunt Shenice McEwing her son called her when he got to the scene, “Mama mama he is gone. He is gone. I said what? He said he dead mama. I said where are you?”
That’s all that could be said after the cousin of 24 year old Ellis Bishop called home after finding the body of his dead cousin at The Dawg Wash in Starkville on Stark Road.
Lead investigator LT. Troy Outlaw, “The call came in at about 5:30 and it is a possible homicide. We are in the very early stages of this. That’s all I can say right now.”
According to family, Bishop was driving with a black female when they pulled up to the car wash on Stark Road. There was a dispute of some sort, the unknown female fled the scene and didn’t call the police immediately.
McEwing says, “He got out to talk to somebody and she heard gun shots. She left the scene and I guess she went and told a mutual friend of hers.”
It was that mutual friend that called Bishop’s cousin. Arriving first on the scene he quickly called police. According to investigators there are several leads. Currently police are talking with people of interest, including the woman riding with Bishop and are trying to piece together what happened.
McEwing says, “Who ever it was that was with him, instead of leaving the scene, if you were fearing for your life maybe you should have went across the street to the gas station, it was open. Why didn’t you go there and call the police?”
Police are interviewing the woman who was with Bishop. No word on why she left and didn’t call police first. Also police have located what is believed to be Bishop’s car torched on the side of the roadway.
