STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The next Starkville fire chief is very familiar with the department.
Starkville Aldermen hired Charles Yarbrough to immediately take the position after a four to three vote on Monday night.
Yarbrough was previously the training officer at the department.
He’ll make a little more than $65,000 a year.
Five people interviewed for the position.
Yarbrough is currently working on a doctorate degree.
City leaders believe he will make a positive impact in the department.
“He has worked diligently over the last two decades to prepare himself for this moment. He is well respected by his peers in the department,” said Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman.
Former Fire Chief Rodger Mann retired last month after 33 years with the city.
