STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) The community of Starkville received a $400,000 grant Tuesday morning from United States Environmental Protection Agency.
The money will be used to assess land that is under utilized or dangerous to the city. After being evaluated, the areas will be treated to expand economic growth and citizen use. Starkville was selected for the grant after completing a rigorous selection process.
“Hopefully it’ll help all the neighborhoods in the city to be able to take some of these properties that may cause blight or may cause issues within their neighborhoods- potentially to redevelop those into something that can be positive for their neighborhoods,” said PM Environmental Regional Manager, John Hargraves.
A landfill at the Mississippi State Research Park will be one of the first areas assessed with grant funds.
