Son Allegedly Assaults Mother, Sets Home On Fire
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County man is accused of hitting and kicking his mother, then setting her home on fire.
Travis Weatherspoon, 37, is being held on charges of Arson and Simple Domestic Assault.
The victim told deputies that Weatherspoon came to her home angry and demanding money, despite a court order to stay away.
Investigators say the woman was hit then fell trying to get away and that’s when she was kicked. Deputies say Weatherspoon also threatened to kill her and harm law enforcement.
She left her Crawford home and called 911 early Saturday morning.
Weatherspoon approached deputies on Farmers Market Street and was arrested. While he was being interviewed, someone stopped to tell them about a fire at the victim’s nearby home.
Deputies put out the flames and called the fire department.
Weatherspoon is expected to be formally charged today, March 12, and have his first court appearance.
