STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- After a year serving his country in Afghanistan, one of the first things Specialist Marcus Sims wanted to do was get back invovled with his daughter’s school. That meant being a special guest and enjoying a special lunch at her elementary school Wednesday.
Alonna Tucker is a 2nd grader at Sudduth Elementary School in Starkville. She was thrilled when her father returned home Tuesday.
Alonna says she missed her dad while he was away, but is very proud of him.
“I love him very much and I’m happy that he served our country.” Says Alonna.
Sims and most of the rest of the 288th Sapper National Guard unit based in Houston returned home after being stationed overseas for a year.
Sims says he’s happy to be back home with the people he cherishes the most in life.
“The look on her face when I see her. I couldn’t wait to get off the plane. To actually see her and she called my name when we were in formation. I just couldn’t wait. I’m just glad to be home. Glad to be with my family, my wife and my daughter.
For lunch, Alonna and her family ate Sim’s favorite food, meatlover’s pizza.
