Softball tournament helps raises awareness of child abuse
NETTLETON, Miss. (WCBI) – April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, and on Saturday a co-ed softball tournament was held at Cason Baptist Church in Nettleton.
The goal was to raise money for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Mississippi which helps victims of child abuse.
Ole Miss senior Brianna Collier was one of the organizers of the event.
She said child abuse needs to come to an end.
Child abuse is very prevalent. Children lose their lives every day because of child abuse. And every ten seconds a child is being abused. And it’s something that needs to be stopped,” said Collier.
Collier says the co-ed softball teams paid a $150 entry fee to participate in the event.
They also raised money from the concessions which were donated by local businesses. They hope to raise between $1,500-2,000.
