All Sixth Graders in the New Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District Will Attend Armstrong Middle School

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Submitted) – The plan for the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District has been revised to bring all sixth grade students in the new district to the Armstrong Middle School campus when the new school year begins in August 2015.

“After evaluating several options along with a review from the United States Department of Justice, we have concluded that our sixth grade students will benefit most by being on one campus,” said Supt. Lewis Holloway.

While the plan requires some adjustments, including the use of temporary structures for some elective programs, it allows the District to provide the best learning opportunities and most diverse course offerings to all students.  SOCSD officials anticipate this transition plan will remain in place until construction of the new Partnership School on the campus of Mississippi State University to house all sixth and seventh grade students is completed.

“This is an exciting time for our schools and our community, and we continue to work through the process to find the most promising path forward,” said Holloway.  “We are grateful to our parents, teachers, administrators, community members and legislators for their efforts to help us achieve a consolidation that offers the greatest access to our students.”

Armstrong Middle School is planning an orientation session for new students and their parents in July.  Additional details regarding this important meeting will be announced in the next few weeks.
