COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Five candidates for Police Chief remain after Columbus leaders review 26 applicants.
A 14 member committee met Monday behind closed doors to narrow down the number of applicants.
Police chiefs from local cities, including Starkville’s Chief Frank Nichols, West Point’s Tim Brinkley, and Charles Bingham, police chief of Cleveland Mississippi are part of the committee.
Mayor Robert Smith says the next step is the open interview process.
The candidates will go before the council and answer questions. Residents will also get to address the candidates with their concerns.
Smith is hoping to do the next phase by the middle of January, and have a police chief chosen by February 1st.
