Shopping locally is good for businesses and communities during holidays
Online shopping has made it so easy to check off your holiday gift list but this year maybe you should consider supporting local shops.
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Shopping locally is good for businesses and communities during the holidays.
With the holidays coming up, it is even more important to show support to local businesses.
Online shopping has made it so easy to check off your holiday gift list but this year maybe you should consider supporting local shops.
Store manager of Whittington, a Starkville gift shop, Barbara Norman said holiday sales can be key to a successful year for local businesses.
“This is the time of the year that a small business makes it or breaks it. So we want you to shop locally and we want to make sure that you shop in Starkville because that makes the town thrive,” Norman said.
Shopping locally affects not only business owners but the community at large.
Jared Owens, owner of Owens Outfitters, encourages shopping close to home because he says a strong economy means that local merchants can support local charities
“It’s not that you’re just giving money to me, you are supporting the people that work with us, our employees which are our local citizens,” Owen said. “So when you support a small local business, you are supporting the people that work there, you are supporting people in the community…When you support your local business, your local businesses I think, and large, most of our local businesses, do what they can to support our local causes. It’s a rising tide that raises all ships.”
Check out your local businesses to see if they are offering deals for Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.
