MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – It has been a little over a week since Monroe County Deputy Eric Sloan was shot, and the gunman is still on the run. Now, residents are giving money to make sure the shooter is brought to justice.
People throughout Monroe County are digging deep into their pockets to help catch the person who shot Deputy Eric Sloan. So far, 11 business and residents have donated money. The reward fund, which started at $1,000, is now $13,000.
“We put up 5 thousand dollars upon the arrest and conviction of this man, and we encourage other businesses and other individuals to do the same, cause that’s the only thing that’s going to get this man brought to justice , is some body gonna have to turn over on him,” Precision Co-Owner Brad Moore said.
Local business Larry Clark Chevrolet, they chipped in with one thousand dollars of their own. I spoke with Monroe Count Sheriff Cecil Cantrell, and he said in times like these, community support is very important in helping them track down the wanted shooter.
“We have a lot of good people in Monroe County, and the people of Monroe County want what’s right, and they want us to catch this man, because it’s not only a danger to the police officers, but to the general public,” Cantrell said.
$13,000.00 is significant, but Cantrell believes more will given before the gunman is arrested. For those who have donated money already, they believe it’s the best thing they can do to help.
“We’d do the same for anybody. We’re very proud of out men and what they do. These men have a thankless job and it makes me feel good as a company to help put money back into our community,” Moore said
