* At 841 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the Memphis metro area this morning, with
additional heavy rainfall expected later this morning. In addition
to minor street flooding throughout the city and nearby suburbs,
heavy rainfall has also led to nuisance flooding throughout
counties just across the state line in Northern Mississippi.
Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen and more heavy
rainfall will occur through the day today. Flash flooding is
ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

* IMPACTS...At 20.0 feet, Residential areas on Hood Road near the
river are flooded. Extensive agricultural flooding is occurring.

- At 8:30 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 8.5 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
tomorrow afternoon and continue rising to a crest of 19.3
feet early Wednesday morning.

Little Tallahatchie Canal at Etta

For the Little Tallahatchie River...including Etta...Minor flooding
is forecast.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Little Tallahatchie Canal at Etta.

* WHEN...From late Saturday night to late Monday evening.

* IMPACTS...At 28.0 feet, Cropland flooding is very extensive and
water begins to cover County Road 46. County Road 47 has 1 to 2
feet of water over the unpaved portions. Evacuations become
necessary due to access problems.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 9:00 PM CDT Friday the stage was 12.1 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
early Sunday morning to a crest of 27.5 feet Sunday evening.
It will then fall below flood stage Monday afternoon.
- Flood stage is 25.0 feet.

At 923 AM CDT, thunderstorms across the warned area were producing
several instances of flash flooding this morning. The public
reported East Main Street was closed to traffic due to 6 to 12
inches of water covering the roadway in Brownsville in Haywood
County. In Covington and Atoka, numerous roadways are being closed
due to water covering the roadways there. Between 1 and 3 inches of
rain have fallen with additional rainfall amounts later today of 2
to 4 more inches of rainfall before sunset tonight.

For the Loosahatchie River...including Arlington...Major flooding is
forecast.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
This approaches the flood of record.

* WHERE...Loosahatchie River at Arlington.

* WHEN...Until late Monday evening.

* IMPACTS...At 24.0 feet, Brunswick Road is beginning to flood. Lots
north of Phillip Drive and south of Brief Road are being covered.

- Forecast...The river will rise to 21.5 feet just after
midnight tonight. It will then rise to 24.0 feet Sunday

areas near the river in southeast Shelby County will begin to
flood.
