Sen. McMahan discuses key issues for upcoming session
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A state senator from Northeast Mississippi believes workforce development and career readiness will be key issues for this legislative session.
Senator Chad McMahan represents District Six, which includes Lee and Itawamba counties.
The Republican senator said while education and infrastructure will be hot topics, he believes the main issues will be career opportunities and career readiness training.
McMahan said students must be equipped to enter the workforce right out of high school, or community college in Mississippi.
“To allow students opportunities to find careers in the regions where they live and to be sure they have the proper training for the modern workforce we have in Mississippi. It’s really incredible when you think about it what’s taking place, you have world class companies like General Atomics, Toyota, Nissan, Amazon and now Google are all choosing to have facilities here in Mississippi because this is a modern Mississippi,” explained Sen. McMahan.
McMahan also said concentrating on workforce development and career readiness will keep more young people in the state, instead of moving away to start careers and families.
