STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A major Starkville employer may be closing its doors.
Sources tell WCBI that when Semisouth closes it’s doors today, it’ll be for good. The company employs about 120 workers.
The human resources department at Semisouth told WCBI this afternoon that no one from the company was available to comment. Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman said he’d heard the news but had not confirmed it.
The 10-year-old company is involved in research and development of high-performance silicon carbide electronic materials for everything from the military to electric cars and solar converters.
The company originally started from research at Mississippi State and announced a major expansion two years ago.
