SEC Players Named to Maxwell Award Watch List
(WCBI Sports) – It’s that time of year where analysts make their bold predictions for how the upcoming college football season will play out. Part of those projections includes naming the preseason selections to the nation’s top awards.
Today 16 sec players are selected to the Maxwell Award watch list, which honors the best player in the nation: four from Alabama, two from Mississippi State and one from Ole Miss.
Quarterback Tyler Russell and fellow senior, running back LaDarius Perkins are named to the list from MSU.
Russell broke 11 single-season school records last season, throwing for over 28-hundred yards and 24 touchdowns.
Perkins finished second last season in the SEC in all-purpose yards and became the ninth player in MSU history to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.
Ole miss’ Bo Wallace makes the list. Wallace rushed for 600 yards and threw for almost 3,000 last season, completing 64% of his passes.
Alabama’s Amari Cooper, AJ McCarron, Cj Mosley and TJ Yeldon make the list as well.
The maxwell award has been given annually to america’s college player of the year since 1937.
Another Bulldog is mentioned. Sophomore linebacker Benardrick McKinney is selected to the Bednarik award, which goes to the best defensive player in the nation.
